Johnstown business leader, longtime president of Galliker's Dairy Company dies at 87

A Johnstown icon is being remembered after passing away last week.

Louis Galliker III died Friday surrounded by family.

He was 87-years-old.

Galliker was the chairman and president of the Galliker Dairy Company for more than 53 years.

Galliker’s obituary says he worked at the company’s offices until a week before his passing.

He’s credited with turning his family business into one of the state’s largest dairy enterprises, distributing ice-cream, milk, iced tea and other beverages throughout 10 states.

Galliker was also a community and business leader in the Johnstown community.

He served as president of Johnstown’s Chamber of Commerce and of the Greater Johnstown Jaycees, was a board member of Johnstown’s BT Financial Corporation, a trustee of Johnstown’s United Way, and a vice president and financial director of the Talus Rock Girl Scout Council, according to his obituary.

A mass was celebrated Tuesday afternoon at St. Clement Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Clement Church, The Community Foundation for the Alleghenies designated for Stackhouse Park Fund, or to CCCRA Ghost Town Trail.
