Jason Aldean’s childhood was not exactly a happy one as his mother Debbie Aldean and father Barry Aldean divorced when he was just three years old. After the divorce, he and his sister, Kasi Williams Aldine, lived with his mother and spent the summers visiting his father in Florida.

His father gave him a chord guitar to practice with. As a child, he familiarized himself with notepads, keys and notes on the guitar every time he went to work. He then showed Jason how and what chords to pluck, and Jason Aldine soon perfected his skills on the guitar and could sit and play his father in the evenings. Although Jason and his band members managed to escape without a scratch, the shock and pain caused by the incident has not been forgotten. Following the shooting, Aldean sent out words of support and performed the song I Shall Not Return by Tom Petty, who died the day after the tragic shooting.
