Jalen Hurts was born on August 7, 1998 in Channelview, Texas where he was also raised. The son of a former football player, Hurts started playing football at Channelview High School.

Averion Jr. Played college football at Kilgore JC in Texas for two seasons before moving to Texas Southern University, where he became the starting quarterback. Their parents would often split up to attend each of the boy’s games whenever their match was played on the same weekend.

In his senior year, Averion Jr. threw for 1,857 yards, scored 12 touchdowns, and completed 51.1. percent of his passes. After college, he followed in his father’s footsteps to start a coaching career as a youth team coach. Jalen often refers to his older brother as his hero and says he modeled his game after him.
