LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WJAC) — A fire consumed a building in Clearfield County on Sunday morning. The blaze gutted the old Clearfield Glass shop, leaving it a shell of tin and charred wood.
Clearfield County Dispatch told 6 News there were, fortunately, no injuries.
Dispatch also told us crews were called to the old Clearfield Glass on Turnpike Ave. in Lawrence Township around 6:40am.
A 30-year resident of the neighborhood across the road told 6 News that's around the time when he first noticed the fire.
"We heard some noises, and by that time, the fire truck was already starting to show up," Charlie Robinson explained.
"When I first saw it, the main garage door — you can see from the front... There was all glass and you could just see the fire just rolling in like a big furnace. And by that time, it started going through the roof."
Robinson noted that authorities shut down a section of Turnpike Ave. as soon as fire trucks started showing up. However, the avenue is the small neighborhood's only access to all other places.
"We couldn't get out, go anywhere until they were done," Robinson recalled. "They blocked off the road. ...There are fire hydrants down next to the intersection here. So, they took a hose and it drug down the middle of the road, and trucks blocking it off."
When 6 News arrived at the scene, a Pennsylvania State Police official was investigating the hollowed-out structure.
"I'm just glad there wasn't anybody in it," said Robinson. "They said there were no tenants in it for the last few weeks. So that was good."
The State Police investigation is ongoing, and we'll be sure to update you on this story.
