Candace Cameron Bure has never been afraid to use her platform to promote Christianity, and she’s not going to slow down now that she’s bringing it to the big screen.
Even though she’s been criticized for her beliefs for a few months, the actress is coming out strong with her latest project. If this isn’t a strong statement, we don’t know what is.
Candace Cameron Bure has said that she hopes a new faith-based movie will make people “turn to Jesus.” This comes three months after she was called a “bigot” for her views on “traditional marriage.”
The 46-year-old Full House actress caused a stir when she said that the Christian network where she now works will focus more on “traditional marriage” than on same-sex relationships. On Friday, she went on Instagram to praise the movie Jesus Revolution.
The movie, directed by Kelsey Grammer, is about the life of the late hippie preacher Lonnie Frisbee. In the movie, Shaun Weiss plays a Vietnam veteran who fights drug addiction.
Bure posted a clip from the movie’s trailer and wrote:
“@jesusrevolutionmovie hits theaters THIS FRIDAY, February 24th ✨ which means if you didn’t have any weekend plans, now you do! Ultimately I pray this movie is used for His glory, and for people to hear the gospel and turn to Jesus.
Backlash happened after Candace Cameron Bure gave an interview with the Wall Street Journal. She said that her new TV network, Great American Family, would not have gay couples in leading roles like the Hallmark Channel, where she had been before.
Two years after the network showed its first LGBTQ holiday movie with a gay couple as the main characters, she said she was leaving the Hallmark Channel in April.
Candace said that she wanted to “tell stories that have more meaning” now that she works for the Great American Family network, which is a cable TV network that started in 1995 as a country music channel.
Candace said in April last year that she had been moved to the network because it fit her “brand” better.
I am constantly looking for ways that I can inspire people to live life with purpose. GAC fits my brand perfectly; we share a vision of creating compelling wholesome content for an audience who wants to watch programming for and with the whole family,
she wrote.
But, according to a source, the actress got into trouble when she said this week that she didn’t think the network would give leading roles to same-sex couples. She said that traditional marriage would still be at the center of the Great American Family.
Bure said that she left the Hallmark Channel party because of the stories it was telling the year before.
My heart wants to tell stories that have more meaning and purpose and depth behind them,
she explained.
She continued:
I knew that the people behind Great American Family were Christians that love the Lord and wanted to promote faith programming and good family entertainment.
Like Hallmark, the cable TV network Great American Family shows that are good for the whole family.
JoJo Siwa and Maren Morris were among the first celebrities to criticize Bure for her homophobic comments.
Hilarie Burton, a star of the TV show One Tree Hill, called Bure a “bigot” and said,
I don’t remember Jesus liking hypocrites like Candy. But sure. Make your money, honey. You ride that prejudice wave all the way to the bank,
in a tweet.
Bigot.

Bure then said something else to back up her position.
She said,
All of you who know me, know beyond question that I have great love and affection for all people. It absolutely breaks my heart that anyone would ever think I intentionally would want to offend and hurt anyone.
