Released as part of the game’s Ikoria set, Godzilla came roaring into the world of Magic: The Gathering as alternate versions of some of the game’s iconic monsters.
Our favorite kaiju has some absolutely beautiful cards while also coming with some great abilities and stats. So if you’re looking to bring some of that classic Godzilla flair to your deck and want to know which cards are the best to go for, then check out our list below:
While Anguirus is useful for his 4/4 with reach and trample, if you can play him for three using mutate, he will combine his stats with another non-human card and also destroy an opponent’s artifact or enchantment.
Babygodzilla only requires two mana to cast and brings with it 1/3 workable stats. He will also help with the set’s mutate mechanic, which allows you to combine monster’s abilities, as he causes your mutated spells to cost less to use.
When you cast this card for five, it can unleash a very powerful 5/5 with deathtouch and lifelink. Then, if you mutate Biollante for seven, you can resurrect any amount of creatures you want with a total power of 10.
Space Godzilla gives you a 6/6 with trample, at the cost of several mana. But for effect, that is worth it. You can also cast from the graveyard with his ability to combine him with a non-human character and combine their abilities.
Dorat looks to be rather weak when you first play him, as he only comes with a 1/1 stat. However, as you cast non-creature cards, he gains a +1/+1 and can quickly become very powerful. He is cheap to cast as well, which is always useful in a battle.
Casting Ghidorah for five will net you a 6/6 with flying and trample, but can also be mutated for six, and you will exile cards from the top of your deck. Once you find a non-lend permanent, you can then play them for free. Further, his colors give fantastic tribal support for his elemental subtype.
While Gigan comes with a 6/6 stat, plus demon and Kraken subtypes, he also comes with a companion mechanic. This mechanic allows you to cast him from outside the game if your deck is full of even-cost cards. Regardless of when you play him, as well, he forces all players to get rid of their top four cards of their deck while letting you play any even-cost creature among them.
Caesar starts as a 3/5 with the ability to strike twice with each attack, starting at the first strike speed. Then you can use one more mana than his base cost to mutate him, which will hit an opponent’s creature for four damage and give you four health.
Mechagodzilla is a Japanese-exclusive card and comes in as a 3/3. However, at the start of combat on your turn, he can permanently gain a counter from the following that he doesn’t already have: flying, first strike, deathtouch, hexproof, lifelink, menace, reach, trample, vigilance, or +1/+1. This means he can get very powerful as the game goes on.
Mothra comes with a 3/4 with flying and comes with a very useful shield. She can revive any non-flying creatures of yours with a flying counter as soon as they die. That alone sets her apart from many other cards you can use in your deck.
